Within the project “Challenges of social change” teachers, social educators and volunteers that are working with children from orphanages and centers for children met with experts of the field of non-formal education and discussed the development of joint projects.
The first part of the seminar was for teachers, and was devoted to the discovering methods of non-formal education that could be used in work with children from orphanages and boarding schools. Other topics that were discussed where children’s rights, human rights, and work with children with challenging social background. Participants were actively involved to the seminar so team of trainers and organizers of the project had the impression that the people who are directly working with children in orphanages and boarding schools are motivated, ready to use and implement methods of non-formal education in their work.
On the last day of the workshop volunteers who also work with the same children joined the seminar and. Volunteers and teachers had the opportunity to look at the work with children from different points of view, to evaluate its contribution to the common aim and to learn about the challenges faced by their colleagues.
The final session of the workshop was a joint brainstorming session, where participants in small groups developed a plan to implement joint activities.
The seminar was held within the project “Challenges of social change”, supported by the European Youth Foundation. As part of this project it is also scheduled a workshop for volunteers, followed by the organization of trips to children’s homes and boarding schools of the Republic of Mari El.
