International volunteers day 2017

5th of December – International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (IVD)

Opora is one if the most active volunteering organizations in Mari El, so of course we also participated in the Yoshkar-Ola’s fair about volunteering in the occasion of IVD – International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (5th of December)
In this fair all organizations are given the possibility to present their work and also to promote voluntarism.
Basically there were about five different groups ( so five stands) to explain and promote their voluntary work.
We were not presenting Opora’s work with children or old people, but we were focusing on promoting EVS, because a lot of people never heard about this opportunity, and maybe it would also be a an incentive for them to learn more English and to be getting interested in traveling abroad.
Of course we had general information about EVS – we were showing a video, to visualize everything, and furthermore every one of us chose one or two projects, which we briefly described on one page and we added some pictures – to concretize what exactly this “EVS“ is – what kind of voluntary work you can do, where you can go, what you need…etc
So as the youngsters came they were able to chose to which stand they want to go. The ones coming to us we explained the EVS opportunity to and we let them read the descriptions of the projects, to give them an impression of it.
Afterwards there was – in the typical Russian manière – an event. This one was about voluntary work in different fields. So different people and organizations received prices and diplomas and in between there were performances – dances, singing…etc.
Opora got a price for their voluntary work with children (see photos).
